Freddie Mercury Biography

Freddie Mercury (Farrokh Bulsara) (1946-1991) – a singer, "Queen” vocalist, musician, composer and poet.

Freddie Mercury was born on 5th of September 1946 in Zanzibar. His parents were Parsee. Freddie name stuck the boy when he begun to attend St. Peter school. Being study at school Freddie was involved in tennis and multiathlon. He was a good student and study painting and music. While being at school he graduated piano courses. And in 1958 he and his friends founded «The Hectics» group which has played in school evenings.

Freddie went back to Zanzibar in 1962 but soon his family moved to England. He begun to study in polytechnic school there and was involved in painting and graphics. At loose hour he worked as loader because his family was poor. After graduation Mercury entered Ealing College where he studied graphic illustration. Freddie moved from parent's house and hired. Soon he acquainted with “Smile” group leader. Later he begun to attend group rehearsals and acquainted with Bryan May and Rodger Taylor. After college graduation Mercury with Taylor opened their shop.

Mercury had met «Ibex» musicians in August 1969 (later this group was renamed into «Wreckage»), and soon he begun to perform with them. But the group did not last long and Mercury entered new band named «Sour Milk Sea». But musicians’ alliance was also short.

Mercury has returned to “Smile” in 1970. Soon the group was renamed into “Queen”. After long search and several candidates, place of guitarist was taken by John Deacon. Freddie created group’s logo with elements of British heraldry. Two years later he took Mercury pseudoname (before he bore his own last name). The first album of group was released in 1972. Mercury wrote some of first hits of "Queen", such as «Bohemian Rhapsody» and «Killer Queen». The group became famous and started tours over different countries. Freddie Mercury had a joint performance with English Queen Ballet in 1979.

1980 stated a new period, Freddie changed his image, had sprout a moustache and cut his hair. Using the leave and suspension of the tour Mercury started his solo career. First time he released «Love Kills» song (1984). And «Mr. Bad Guy» album of Freddie Mercury was released in 1985.

Collaboration with Montserrat Cabalier was followed by some joint performances on various festivals. Since 1986 the press spreads rumors of singer’s disease but he denied them. Only the most familiars knew about his AIDS disease. “Queen” refused their tour in 1989. This period of his life Freddie Mercury devoted to recording because he wanted to release as much songs as it was possible. His “Barcelona” solo album was followed by “The Miracle” and “Innuendo” albums of “Queen”.

On November 23, 1991 Mercury officially confirmed that he was ill with AIDS and the next day he died of bronchial pneumonia.

Till present days Mercury is one of the most famous and popular singers in the world. The concert in his honor was given in 1992 where many stars and singer’s friends performed.
